Presidential Search Committee process for selection of finalists

June 1, 2022

Dear FIU family,

The Presidential Search Committee, tasked with selecting FIU’s sixth president, held a meeting this afternoon to discuss next steps in the search process. The committee is collaborating with the Dallas-based search firm R. William Funk and Associates to identify, recruit and vet presidential candidates.

The application process is currently open for individuals interested in the position. Once the application period closes, each committee member will evaluate the applications and create an individual list of top candidates. Then, the committee will distill these individual lists into one list of semi-finalists for the first round of interviews. After the semifinalists are interviewed and background checks are completed, the committee will select the finalists to be moved forward in the process for on-campus interviews with the Board of Trustees and other on-campus constituencies.

Funk and Associates has extensive experience recruiting for R1 universities and has successfully placed presidents at several institutions, including Rutgers University, Indiana University, Texas A&M University and University of South Carolina. The firm has also helped recruit for FIU leadership positions in the past.

You can read more about the presidential position criteria and leadership statement and other aspects of the search at our FIU presidential search website. Thank you.
