Update from FIU Board of Trustees Chair Dean Colson about presidential search
March 29, 2022
Dear members of the university community,
Now that the presidential search firm R. William Funk and Associates has been recommended by the FIU Board of Trustees Governance Committee, the next step in launching the search for FIU’s sixth president is to name a search committee.
In accordance with the Florida Board of Governors regulation, presidential search committees must have no more than 15 members comprised of students, faculty, alumni, and the community. The regulation also requires at least three Board of Trustees members and one member of the Board of Governors to serve in the search committee.
Consistent with Florida Board of Governors regulations, I am appointing Board Vice Chair Roger Tovar to serve as the chair of the Presidential Search Committee. In consultation with Board of Governors Chair Brian Lamb, I will be appointing the members of the Presidential Search Committee at the April 5 Board of Trustees meeting. The meeting begins at 11 a.m. and will be livestreamed at webcast.fiu.edu. Later that afternoon, at 2 p.m. on April 5, the Presidential Search Committee will hold its first meeting. This meeting also will be livestreamed at webcast.fiu.edu.
Please also mark your calendar for April 13, when we will hold a community forum to get input from students, faculty, and staff. An invitation for this event will be forthcoming.
In addition, please note that as the search develops, information on process, meetings and candidates will be posted on the presidential search website. This website will be updated routinely. We invite you to visit the website and we welcome your input.
As I have said before, our Board of Trustees is committed to a thorough, diligent, and collaborative search process and will continue to provide the university community with frequent updates and opportunities to work together.
Thank you,
Dean C. Colson
Chair, FIU Board of Trustees
