Alexander P. Sutton

FIU SGA President

Alexander P. Sutton is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and serves as Student Body President at FIU. As President, he presides over the Student Government Association and represents the interests of the student body. The Student Government Association is responsible for allocating a $20 million budget each year and advocating for student needs at the University, local, statewide, and national levels.

As President, Sutton aims to boost Panther Pride and ensure all FIU students are proud of their world-class university, promote transparency and accountability throughout SGA, and expand the number of SGA-sponsored services and amenities offered to the student body across our campuses.

Alexander has also served in SGA as Senate President, in which capacity he was the Chair of the Student Senate. In 2022, he helped celebrate FIU’s historic 50th anniversary by planning and hosting SGA’s Pantherversary event in the Green Library. He also led the passage of a resolution that relayed the desires of the student body to the Presidential Search Committee. In addition, he has led efforts to push for reform, transparency, and accountability measures within the Student Government. As a Senator for the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, he regularly relayed student concerns to the Green School administration, and passed a resolution honoring the late Founding Dean John F. Stack.

Alexander has been an active member of FIU’s highly ranked Model United Nations team since his first semester at FIU. He served as Head Delegate of the Model United Nations program, and was named to the North American College Model U.N. All-Stars Team as one of the top Model U.N. competitors in North America. Alexander is also an active member of Greek Life and is a proud brother of Theta Chi.

Alexander was born and raised in Miami and is a proud citizen of the Panther Nation. He never had any doubt in his mind that he would attend FIU, being attracted by the university’s top-ranked Model U.N. program and the unique opportunities offered by the Green School. After graduation, he hopes to attend law school and then pursue a career of public service in the legal profession, business, and public elected office.
