Approval of range of compensation for next FIU president

Dear members of the university community,

The FIU Presidential Search Committee has unanimously approved a range of compensation for FIU’s next president.

At a meeting held Thursday afternoon, committee members agreed on a base salary range between $600,000 to $700,000, with additional compensation in the form of a performance-based bonus and other benefits. This recommendation will go before the FIU Board of Trustees for consideration during a meeting on Monday, October 17.

The salary range approved by the committee was established after reviewing the compensation of presidents at 23 universities nationwide, including all of the Florida State University System institutions.  

As the process continues to select FIU’s sixth president, the university is hosting a series of community sessions next week to give all stakeholders an opportunity to interact directly with Dr. Kenneth A. Jessell, the candidate recommended by the Presidential Search Committee.

Dr. Jessell was chosen from a highly qualified, distinguished and diverse pool of 12 individuals that the Presidential Search Committee interviewed. Of the 12, three were women, five were Hispanic and two were Black. Nine of the 12 were sitting, past or interim presidents. The search firm communicated with approximately 186 individuals regarding the position. From this group, more than 70 individuals submitted their documents to be considered by the Search Committee.

Community sessions will take place on Tuesday, October 11, and Wednesday, October 12, at GC Ballrooms at MMC, as well as on Zoom and through FIU Webcast. Invitations have been sent to the FIU community. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

Transcripts from each session will be made available to members of the FIU Board of Trustees in advance of the meeting on Monday, October 17, when the Board is expected to consider the Presidential Search Committee’s recommendation.
