W. Patrick McDowell, based in Miami, Florida, is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and founder of McDowell Properties and McDowell Housing Partners. McDowell Properties was formed in 2004 and has an investment strategy that focuses on the acquisition and renovation of workforce housing multifamily rental properties and McDowell Housing Partners develops, operates and owns affordable rental housing communities. He leads the senior management team in all aspects of both firm’s business activities and strategic planning efforts and is Chairman of the firm’s Investment Committee.
McDowell Properties investment focus is on workforce housing communities in the sunbelt spanning from Nevada to Texas, Florida, Georgia the Carolinas and up to the Mid-Atlantic. The company has also been an active buyer of subordinate CMBS debt having made investments in Freddie Mac sponsored commercial mortgage-backed securities backed by loans on multifamily properties. McDowell Housing Partners is a developer and owner of affordable housing communities in Florida and Texas. Formed in 2019, the company has properties in Austin and Dallas Texas and Florida spanning from South Miami to Pembroke Pines, Naples, and the West coast of Florida up to the Panhandle.
Previously Mr. McDowell was a founder and partner of The Fox Group and its successor company Metric Realty, a joint venture with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Fox/Metric invested in and managed real estate assets, comprising in excess of 400 individual properties located in more than 30 states. Mr. McDowell was Executive Vice President of Fox from 1975 until 1986, in charge of all acquisition, disposition and financing activities, and from 1986 until 1993, he was President and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. McDowell is active in numerous industry organizations. He has served on the Advisory Committee for Troubled Projects of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Vice Chairman of the National Multi Housing Council. He is on the Advisory Board of the Fisher Center for Real Estate at the University of California, Berkeley, the Stanford Real Estate Council, a member of the Urban Land Institute, and a Board member of the National Multi Housing Council.
Mr. McDowell is currently a Trustee of the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and serves on its Finance and Investment committees and is also a member of the Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council.
Mr. McDowell has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA in Real Estate from the Graduate School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to his wife, Camille, he has four children and three grandchildren.
